Quezon City 5th District Rep. Patrick Michael Vargas has filed two House bills aimed at improving compensation and working conditions for healthcare workers.
House Bill 3520 seeks to increase the entry-level salary of government doctors from P73,303 to P91,306, representing a P18,003 raise.
Vargas said the measure is intended to address the persistent brain drain in the healthcare sector, as many medical professionals seek better opportunities abroad.
Meanwhile, House Bill 3398, or the “Care for Nurses’ Welfare Act,” proposes limiting nurses’ work hours to eight hours per shift and no more than 40 hours per week.
Vargas emphasized that ensuring adequate rest for nurses is essential to maintaining quality patient care.
