Tropical Storm Kiyapo (international name: Noul) made landfall over Camiguin Island in Calayan, Cagayan on Friday afternoon with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gusts of up to 115 kph, according to PAGASA.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remains in effect over Batanes and parts of Northern Luzon, while Signal No. 1 is raised over several nearby provinces.
PAGASA warned that Kiyapo could intensify into a severe tropical storm, with Signal No. 3 still possible if conditions worsen.
The storm and the southwest monsoon are expected to bring strong winds and rough seas across much of the country, prompting gale warnings and travel advisories.
Kiyapo is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by late Friday or early Saturday before potentially strengthening into a typhoon over the West Philippine Sea.
