The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said petitions to increase public utility vehicle fares are still under review as fuel prices rise for a ninth consecutive week.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the board is awaiting additional documents and hopes to issue a resolution by March, with hearings planned to discuss fare adjustments.
Transport groups are seeking higher fares, including a P20 increase for ride-hailing services and a P1 hike for jeepneys, to balance driver livelihoods with commuter welfare.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said bus fares, unchanged since 2022, will also be reviewed to ensure fair pricing.
Mendoza emphasized that any increase must be carefully balanced to avoid burdening commuters while supporting drivers’ earnings.
