Iran launched missile strikes at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday in retaliation for recent U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, but no casualties were reported as Washington claimed to have received advance notice.
U.S. President Donald Trump downplayed the attack as “very weak,” suggesting it provided an opportunity for de-escalation and peace, while oil prices plunged over 6% amid relief from global markets.
Iran emphasized that the strike was proportional and not a threat to Qatar, though the latter condemned it and warned of possible retaliation.
Regional tensions remain high, with Iran and Israel exchanging heavy strikes, prompting international calls—including from France and China—to halt the growing conflict.
Despite the volatile situation, the U.S. maintains that regime change is not its objective, and analysts see Iran’s move as a potential diplomatic off-ramp.
