ILOILO MAYOR SAYS NO COPY YET OF OMBUDSMAN COMPLAINT ON ILLEGAL QUARRYING

Miag-ao, Iloilo Mayor Richard Garin said he has yet to receive or review the complaint filed against him before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas over alleged illegal quarrying.

The complaint, filed by Salvador Acsay Jr., accuses Garin and three municipal employees of violating the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 over alleged unauthorized sand and gravel extraction from Tumagbok River.

Acsay claimed the activity was conducted without required permits from provincial authorities but denied that the complaint was politically motivated.

Garin declined to comment further until he sees the complaint and said the public should not judge a person based only on allegations.

He also questioned another complaint filed by Acsay against the LGU’s Responsableng Ginikanan Academy program, saying Acsay has no direct interest in the matter.
