Two International Criminal Court (ICC) judges have asked the tribunal to dismiss a disqualification request filed by former president Rodrigo Duterte’s defense team, asserting they remain impartial.
Judges Maria del Socorro Flores Liera and Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini-Gansou emphasized their adherence to judicial ethics and denied any conflict in handling Duterte’s case.
The defense had argued that both judges had previously ruled on key jurisdictional matters, compromising their neutrality.
However, the judges maintained that no circumstances warranted their recusal. The final decision on the disqualification now rests with the plenary of ICC judges.
