Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for alleged crimes against humanity linked to the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
The ICC and Philippine authorities, including the DOJ, Malacañang, and the DFA, have yet to confirm the warrant, and Dela Rosa’s legal team called for public caution pending official verification.
Experts noted that any ICC arrest would require an extradition request and compliance with Philippine law, including Supreme Court rules on extradition.
While the Senate leadership assured that Dela Rosa could not be arrested on Senate premises, the ICC’s alleged order has reignited debates over due process and the government’s obligations despite the Philippines’ withdrawal from the Rome Statute.
Dela Rosa, who previously led the PNP during the drug war, has not commented on the reports, and authorities continue to verify the information.
