The House committee on justice began deliberations on four impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte to assess whether they are sufficient in form and substance.
Lawmakers supporting the complaints include Reps. Leila de Lima, Sarah Jane Elago, and others, while one group, Tindig Pilipinas, withdrew its complaint to consolidate support behind the third suit.
The complaints allege Duterte committed violations such as graft, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and mismanagement of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds during her term as education secretary.
A key piece of evidence is the affidavit of inmate Ramil Madriaga, who claimed to have handled cash delivered to Duterte’s security aide during the 2022 elections, allegedly funded by drug lords and Chinese-led POGOs.
Congress is preparing security measures for Madriaga if summoned, while lawmakers emphasized verifying the authenticity of all allegations before proceeding with the impeachment process.
