The 41-second AI-generated video, posted on a Facebook page, repurposes footage from a previous speech and features unnatural mouth movements and digitally altered features.
Hontiveros’ office confirmed she did not endorse the scheme or Mendoza.
Similar deepfake scams have targeted other public figures to promote fraudulent financial programs, generating thousands of views.
Authorities warn the public to remain vigilant against the rising incidence of online fraud and investment scams.
