The 66th Palarong Pambansa officially begins on May 25, with thousands of young athletes competing in various events across Agusan del Sur.
Athletics is expected to produce the first medal winners, with competitions in the 3,000-meter run, long jump, javelin throw, and shot put opening the medal race.
Defending champion National Capital Region remains the favorite to capture a 19th straight overall title after dominating last year’s games in Laoag City.
More than 10,000 student-athletes from 18 regions, along with delegates from the National Academy of Sports and Philippine Schools Overseas, are participating in this year’s tournament.
New additions to the games include weightlifting as a regular medal sport, while football for secondary girls and futsal for elementary girls will also debut as medal events.
