According to the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), the government plans to repurpose forfeited Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) hubs into community facilities, such as schools and government offices.
Undersecretary Gilbert Cruz announced a collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to explore options for converting these sites.
The Pogo hubs, now undergoing civil and criminal forfeiture, were linked to illegal activities and are seen as potential assets for local communities.
Cruz highlighted the benefits of transforming these facilities rather than leaving them vacant, citing successful past conversions, such as a former Pogo hub in Pasay City now serving as a detention facility and rescue center.
The government’s move comes as President Marcos has issued a ban on Pogos, prompting thousands of Pogo workers to apply for visa downgrades as they prepare to leave the country by year’s end.
