GILAS PILIPINAS FALLS AT HOME AS AUSSIES DOMINATE THIRD QUARTER

Gilas Pilipinas suffered a second straight home loss in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, falling 93-66 to Australia at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

The Philippines had narrowly lost to New Zealand 69-66 just days earlier, but the game against the Boomers turned into a blowout after Australia’s dominant third quarter, including five 3-pointers, gave them a commanding lead.

Justin Brownlee led Gilas with 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, while Quentin Millora-Brown added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Elijah Pepper scored 28 points with seven rebounds for Australia, supported by Tanner Krebs, Mitch Creek, and Tom Wilson as the Boomers made 15 3-pointers.

Despite the defeat, Gilas Pilipinas is already assured of a spot in the second round after New Zealand’s 99-67 win over Guam secured their advancement.
