Ako Bicol Rep. Alfredo Garbin defended former lawmaker Elizaldy Co against corruption allegations made by Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, stressing that the accusations have not been proven in court.
Garbin said Co’s resignation from the House was a “sacrifice” to ensure a fair investigation, emphasizing the principle of due process and presumption of innocence.
Magalong criticized Co for allegedly stealing public funds and called Garbin’s defense insulting to the Filipino people.
Garbin countered by urging Magalong to address his own alleged involvement in a controversial project worth P110 million.
Co faces accusations related to budget insertions and kickbacks in infrastructure projects, but has denied the claims and vowed to respond through proper channels.
