Former PAGCOR chairman Efraim Genuino and four other former officials were convicted by the Sandiganbayan of multiple counts of graft and malversation over the misuse of ₱50.05 million in public funds from 2005 to 2008.
The court sentenced each to over 100 years in prison, though under Philippine law, the maximum time they will serve is capped at 40 years.
The convictions stemmed from irregular disbursements used to fund the BIDA Foundation, which Genuino founded, including the purchase of promotional materials without proper bidding.
They were also fined ₱45.17 million and permanently barred from holding public office.
However, they were acquitted of several other charges due to insufficient evidence, including alleged donations and expenditures linked to BIDA’s failed 2010 party-list campaign.
