The Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) may face delays until 2026 to complete the Cavite extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) due to issues with acquiring the right of way (ROW).
Transportation Undersecretary Jeremy Regino reported that 80 percent of the ROW has been procured, with the remainder expected to be acquired through 2025.
Utility relocations, including those by Meralco, are also contributing to the delay.
The extension, which will add nearly 12 kilometers to the LRT-1 line and reduce travel time between Pasay City and Cavite to 30 minutes, is expected to accommodate up to 800,000 passengers daily.
LRMC will open the first leg of the extension this year, adding five new stations and suspending operations for integration work on select weekends.
