Filipina tennis prodigy Alex Eala made a powerful statement in the W40 Petange tournament in Luxembourg, securing a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory over Denmark’s Johanne Svendsen in the early hours of Friday morning (Manila time).
Despite Svendsen’s initial lead of 1-3 in the first set, Eala demonstrated her resilience and determination, winning the next five games consecutively, culminating in a decisive 40-love victory.
Carrying the momentum into the second set, Eala established an early 2-0 lead, leaving Svendsen struggling to keep pace. After Svendsen managed to secure one game, Eala closed out the match with four consecutive grueling games, ending the encounter in one hour and 13 minutes.
Eala’s dominance throughout the match was evident, as she recorded four impressive service aces, demonstrating her mastery of the serve. Additionally, she outperformed Svendsen in both service points (32 to 24) and receiving points (27 to 15), showcasing her overall control of the game.
Currently ranked 204th in the world, Eala’s victory advances her to the quarterfinals, where she is heavily favored to defeat her next opponent, Jasmijn Gimbrere of the Netherlands.
