Former President Rodrigo Duterte, currently detained in Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, expressed his desire to return home to the Philippines as soon as possible, according to his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte.
During a phone conversation, Duterte conveyed his wish to die in his home country, with Sara acknowledging the urgency of his request.
Sara also mentioned that Duterte’s legal team is actively working on his case, with daily visits from his lawyers.
Duterte, facing crimes against humanity charges related to his war on drugs, thanked his supporters and emphasized that his actions were done for the country.
Meanwhile, his defense counsel, Nicholas Kaufman, clarified that while Filipino lawyers are assisting, no Filipino lawyer is part of the core defense team in The Hague.
