DOTR URGES STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF BICYCLE LANE REGULATIONS

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) emphasizes enforcing bike lanes to alleviate traffic congestion. Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized this during the inauguration of an active transport infrastructure in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Bautista urged law enforcers, including the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and police, to ensure proper usage of bike lanes. He highlighted the benefits of active transport, such as reducing traffic congestion and promoting healthy lifestyles.

The DOTr has implemented bike lanes nationwide as part of its efforts. The active transport infrastructure in San Fernando, Pampanga, includes a 37.5-kilometer bike lane network.

This initiative is part of the P5-billion active transport program under the National Transport Policy and Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028.

Despite proposals to modify bike and motorcycle lanes on Edsa, Bautista’s remarks follow the DOTr’s commitment to promoting cycling, walking, and light electric vehicles as sustainable transportation modes.
