Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the LTFRB to penalize “snobbish” taxi and TNVS drivers who frequently cancel booked trips and to study the legal basis for surge pricing.
A memorandum circular will be issued to sanction drivers who cancel rides due to reasons like heavy traffic or long distances, and TNVS operators must submit lists of frequent cancelers.
The LTFRB will also set up a hotline for the public to report erring or abusive drivers.
Lopez directed a review of surge pricing, with the possibility of canceling or deferring it during the holiday season, and will hold a public consultation with TNVS companies on December 10.
He emphasized balancing passenger protection with potential impacts on drivers, noting that alternative measures may be considered.
