The Department of Energy (DoE) in the Philippines is considering allowing power plants longer maintenance periods to conduct thorough inspections and necessary repairs, according to Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla.
This initiative aims to address frequent power outages, particularly during high-temperature periods caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
Lotilla noted that giving plants more time for maintenance could help prevent forced shutdowns and improve overall performance.
The DoE and the Energy Regulatory Commission are evaluating the potential impacts of this policy change on the power supply.
Lotilla also mentioned preparations for the 2025 elections, expressing hope that El Niño will not recur, allowing sufficient time for plant maintenance.
