The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shut down three language training centers in Bulacan and Cebu for alleged involvement in illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
The closed centers include the IWA Language Learning Center in Malolos, Bulacan, and Aseanway Learning and Development Centers in Calumpit, Bulacan, and Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
These centers reportedly charged trainees P50,000 to P70,000 for job placements in countries like Japan, Korea, and some European nations, despite lacking authorization to recruit workers abroad.
DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia said the centers referred students to partner agencies after training, which is illegal.
The DMW is now investigating the ownership of the centers to determine if they are controlled by a single operator or family.
