DMW APPEALS TO COMELEC FOR EXEMPTION ON OFW FINANCIAL AID RESTRICTIONS

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is seeking an exemption from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) spending ban to continue providing financial assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during the election period.

Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac explained that responding to urgent requests from OFWs is critical to the DMW’s duties, especially in emergencies.

He emphasized that the DMW cannot delay aid or staff deployment overseas due to the campaign period.

Cacdac also noted that, like other agencies, the DMW typically seeks exemption from the Comelec for urgent services.

Meanwhile, Cacdac assured that the government is assisting the family of Jenny Alvarado, a migrant worker who recently died in Kuwait, and is investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and the repatriation mix-up.
