The Senate ratified the bicameral report on the Adjusted DFA Retirement Benefits Act, which mandates a pension differential for retired foreign service officers.
The measure ensures their monthly stipend matches the salary grade of their last-held rank before retirement.
Sen. Mark Villar, the bill’s sponsor, emphasized the need to support DFA retirees who dedicated years to strengthening the country’s diplomatic ties.
The law will apply to retirees aged 65 and above who served at least 15 years in the DFA and are receiving pensions from the GSIS.
The DFA will conduct periodic reviews to ensure the program’s sustainability.
