The Department of Education will seek an P8 billion budget from Congress to hire more security guards and provide safety equipment for public schools.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the funding is needed as only 2,494 security guards currently serve around 48,000 public schools nationwide.
He added that DepEd will continue strengthening safety measures, including active shooter drills, security protocols, and coordination with law enforcement.
Angara also called for stronger community efforts to address school violence.
Meanwhile, a proposed law seeking to improve facilities and access in last mile and geographically isolated schools has been submitted to Malacañang for approval
