VILLAR SEEKS BETTER SECURITY MEASURES IN LEARNING INSTITUTIONS

Sen. Mark Villar has filed a bill seeking stronger security and emergency preparedness measures in schools following recent shooting and stabbing incidents involving minors.

Senate Bill No. 2321, or the proposed Learning Institution’s Guaranteed Threat Avoidance and Safety Act (Ligtas Act), aims to establish a uniform safety framework for public and private basic education institutions.

The measure includes increased police visibility, emergency hotlines, security systems, trained personnel, and safety training for students and school workers.

It also seeks to create School Safety Councils in every city and municipality to coordinate safety policies and emergency responses.

Villar said the bill aims to ensure safer and more prepared learning environments for Filipino students.
