Senator Ronald dela Rosa expressed disappointment on Thursday over President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s veto of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Organizational Reform Bill, emphasizing that the legislation aimed to fill critical gaps in police reform.
Dela Rosa, a former top police official, lamented the perceived loss of effort from Congress, the Department of Interior and Local Government, the National Police Commission, and the PNP in drafting the bill.
Despite the setback, Dela Rosa hoped that this decision would not demotivate uniformed personnel and remained optimistic about future opportunities to advance police reforms in collaboration with the administration.
Marcos, in his veto statement dated July 5, acknowledged the bill’s noble intentions but raised concerns over its potential impact on police operations and organization.
