Former senator Leila de Lima has been named the first nominee of the newly formed Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list, which seeks to represent marginalized sectors, including workers, senior citizens, and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
She plans to push for a Magna Carta for Fisherfolk, review the Rice Tariffication Act, and address urban poor and Indigenous peoples’ concerns.
Joining her are former representative Teddy Baguilat, who will focus on environmental and Indigenous rights, and Erin Tañada, an advocate for education reform.
De Lima also confirmed plans to file legal charges against those responsible for her detention, emphasizing justice over revenge.
ML Party-list aims to secure congressional seats in the upcoming elections to advance these advocacies.
