DA CONSIDERS MAX SRP FOR GARLIC AND EGGS AMID PRICE FLUCTUATIONS

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has proposed setting a maximum suggested retail price (SRP) for garlic and eggs to prevent profiteering, but the plan is currently on hold.

DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. explained that the agency is prioritizing rice and pork price controls, with garlic prices dropping from a peak of P160 to around P100.

While the idea of a garlic SRP remains on the table, Tiu Laurel emphasized that the measure would be implemented only if prices spike again.

The DA is also monitoring egg prices, which range from P6 to P8, down from P10 to P12 in some areas.

Speaker Martin Romualdez called for improved price monitoring systems to reflect actual market conditions for more accurate policymaking.
