A day after the deadline for filing certificates of candidacy (COC), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) began reviewing the list of candidates for the May 2025 midterm elections.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia announced that the law department is evaluating which candidates should be removed due to perpetual disqualifications from public office.
The commission will also identify and eliminate “nuisance” candidates who may confuse voters or undermine the electoral process.
Garcia emphasized that lack of resources or political party affiliation will not be grounds for disqualification.
The Comelec plans to publish the list of candidates for public scrutiny within two to three weeks, with an official list expected by the end of November.
