The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will continue preparing for the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), even as President Marcos Jr. is expected to sign into law next week the measure postponing the polls to November 2026.
Comelec Chair George Garcia said preparations must proceed in case the postponement is challenged in the Supreme Court, which could deem it unconstitutional.
No funds have been spent yet, with election materials on standby to avoid waste.
Veteran election lawyer Romy Macalintal vowed to contest the postponement, citing a 2023 Supreme Court ruling that declared previous BSKE delays unconstitutional without valid justification.
Despite public opposition to the move, Garcia stressed that the Comelec will follow any law enacted by Congress and signed by the President.
