Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero is expected to retain his post in the 20th Congress with at least 13 senators, including key allies, expressing support for his leadership.
Senator Joel Villanueva revealed he had spoken with a majority of his colleagues who favor Escudero, citing his accomplishments and respectful treatment of fellow lawmakers.
Senators Erwin and Raffy Tulfo also confirmed their backing, aligning with the Senate majority that typically supports the administration.
While other contenders like former Senate President Tito Sotto and Senator Imee Marcos are reportedly eyeing the role, Sotto has expressed openness to becoming minority leader if not elected.
Escudero’s continued leadership signals stability and a strong working relationship among senators as the new Congress convenes.
