Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano has been elected as the new Senate minority leader, succeeding Sen. Tito Sotto III, who assumed the role of Senate president after Sen. Francis Escudero stepped down.
Sotto secured the backing of 15 senators, solidifying his leadership in the upper chamber.
The leadership change triggered a major reorganization, with nine senators shifting to the minority and relinquishing their committee chairmanships to the majority bloc.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson was elected Senate president pro tempore and now heads the blue ribbon committee.
Other new appointments include Sen. Raffy Tulfo (labor), JV Ejercito (public order and dangerous drugs), Risa Hontiveros (health), and Loren Legarda, who now chairs three committees: accounts, higher education, and national defense.
