Car manufacturers express caution regarding the use of gasoline with higher ethanol blends, particularly for owners of older car models, according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI).
While the government plans to increase the ethanol blend on gasoline from 10 percent to 20 percent (E-20) voluntarily, CAMPI emphasizes the need to consider the fuel-blend compatibility of different vehicle models.
While most current models may be compatible with the higher ethanol blend, older running models may face challenges in terms of fuel system adaptability.
The Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP) advises car owners to assess their vehicle usage before deciding to switch to E-20. Daily use may be suitable, but occasional use could pose risks due to the ethanol component attracting water that may damage the engine.
The AAP President also called on the government to study the proposal carefully before implementing it. He said that many Filipinos invest in personal cars for convenience, and it is important to make sure that the higher ethanol blend will not damage their vehicles.
