Senator Camille Villar filed a bill establishing a ₱10-billion Cancer Medicine and Treatment Assistance Fund to provide free cancer medicines and treatment for indigent patients through PhilHealth-accredited hospitals nationwide.
The measure aims to coordinate with the DOH, DSWD, and DILG to ensure beneficiaries are properly identified and that assistance reaches those in need.
Villar emphasized that cancer remains a leading cause of death in the Philippines and that costly treatments often push families into financial hardship.
The fund seeks to promote early detection, timely treatment, and universal access to life-saving care for all Filipinos.
The senator said the proposal reflects her ongoing legislative push to strengthen preventive healthcare and expand medical support for vulnerable populations.
