The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) held a send-off ceremony for BRP Gabriela Silang and BRP Miguel Malvar as they prepare to join the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2026 in Hawaii.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said the participation marks a milestone, as the agency has moved from observer status to active involvement due to improved fleet readiness.
He credited the development to ongoing modernization efforts supported by the government, allowing the PCG to operate alongside international partners in various maritime drills.
The vessels will take part in exercises on search and rescue, information sharing, public affairs, and humanitarian assistance with the United States Coast Guard and other nations.
The PCG will join more than 30 countries in the exercise aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and regional security.
