Seven members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) have filed Parliament Bill 403, which seeks to replace two Supreme Court-nullified districting laws essential for the conduct of the first BARMM parliamentary elections.
The measure, now known as the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Districting Act of 2025, redefines the 32 single-member districts across BARMM provinces based on population and land area, in line with the Bangsamoro Organic Law (RA 11054).
The Supreme Court earlier voided BAA 77 and 58 and directed the BTA to pass a new version by October 30, to allow the Commission on Elections to hold the first Parliament poll by March 31, 2026.
While stakeholders welcomed the bill, some critics expressed doubt that it could be passed within the remaining session days. Speaker Mohammad Yacob vowed to prioritize the measure to ensure timely elections in the region.
