Senator Paolo “Bam” Aquino IV is pushing for the passage of a bill to raise the annual income tax exemption threshold from P250,000 to P480,000, thereby increasing Filipino workers’ take-home pay.
Under Senate Bill No. 267, individuals earning up to P480,000 a year would be exempt from paying income tax, a measure Aquino said is needed to help families cope with rising living costs.
Filed in July 2025, the proposal has remained pending for nearly a year, prompting the senator to urge lawmakers to prioritize it when Congress resumes session.
Aquino argued that the current tax exemption under the TRAIN Law is no longer sufficient as inflation continues to erode workers’ purchasing power.
He added that the measure would not only ease the financial burden on families but also boost consumer spending and economic activity.
