Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the 2026 Palarong Pambansa will offer more opportunities for young Filipino athletes through new sports, broader participation, and updated competition policies.
The national games, themed “Unlocking the Future Through Sports,” will be held in Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 31, with around 11,000 student-athletes expected to compete.
New regular events this year include weightlifting, football for secondary girls, and futsal for elementary girls, while karate, kickboxing, and soft tennis will be featured as demonstration sports.
Muay Thai and selected Paragames events will also be showcased to promote inclusivity in school sports.
Organizers said expanded participation, including independent delegations from the Negros Island Region, Philippine Schools Overseas, and the National Academy of Sports, aims to give more learners nationwide the chance to compete.
