AFP STRENGTHENS SELF-RELIANT DEFENSE CAPABILITIES IN MAJOR EXERCISE

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has launched its ninth joint exercise, AJEX Dagat, Langit at Lupa 09-2025, to prepare for independent operations lasting up to 30 days in case of conflict.

The 10-day exercise, running from November 4 to 14 across Luzon and Palawan, involves the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Police, and reserve forces in simulated land, air, and maritime operations.

AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. emphasized the importance of self-reliance during the initial phase of any conflict, even as the country maintains alliances with the United States, Australia, and Japan.

This year marks the first major exercise under the newly activated AFP Strategic Command, designed to oversee unified operations and address structural gaps from past drills.

The exercise and the updated Unilateral Defense Plan aim to strengthen the Philippines’ ability to respond to a wide range of security challenges, including cyber, space, and information warfare.
