He committed to prioritizing digital infrastructure in the 2026 national budget, backing programs like GovNet, the middle-mile network, and the DICT’s free public internet initiative.
Speaking at the launch of the National Fiber Backbone project’s next phases in Palo, Leyte, Romualdez stressed the importance of reliable internet for every barangay.
The project aims to benefit 17 million Filipinos by connecting 1,000 government offices across 20 provinces.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also attended the event, which included the launch of free public WiFi at the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park.
