ZUBIRI RECEIVES JAPAN’S GRAND CORDON, PLEDGES STRONGER BILATERAL TIES

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, Japan’s highest honor for a foreign national, from Emperor Naruhito at a ceremony in Tokyo on November 11.

Zubiri expressed gratitude, describing the award as both an honor and a challenge to further strengthen Philippines-Japan relations.

He noted that the recognition reflects the deep friendship between the two nations and emphasized the need for accountability in his work with Japan.

During the conferment, Emperor Naruhito extended sympathies to those affected by recent typhoons in the Philippines, highlighting Japan’s support through aid and assistance.

Zubiri is one of only eight foreign nationals awarded the Grand Cordon among 104 recipients of Japanese decorations for Autumn 2025.
