ZAMBOANGA CITY MOURNS AS LANDSLIDE, FLOOD CLAIM 6 LIVES

Six fatalities have been confirmed in Zamboanga City due to landslides and flash floods that struck on Friday, according to authorities.

The city’s disaster risk reduction and management office reported that search teams discovered the victims in Barangay Pamucutan.

Identified victims include Leonilo Moret, 47, and his son Justine, 10, from Sitio Papaya, as well as Myca Ortega, 27, and her son JM, 6, from Sitio Anuling.

The Morets perished when their home was swept away by a mudslide, with their bodies found in separate rivers days later.

Search efforts, aided by heavy machinery, recovered Myca and her son from debris in Sitio Anuling.

Up to 2,000 families across 16 barangays were displaced by the calamity, with assessments ongoing to determine the extent of the damage caused.
