A labor group, the Workers’ and Peasants’ Party has petitioned the Supreme Court to disqualify Apollo Quiboloy from the 2025 senatorial race, calling him a nuisance candidate.
The group, led by lawyer Sonny Matula, criticized the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for its “double standard” in handling Quiboloy’s candidacy, as his camp missed the deadline to file a response but was not penalized.
Quiboloy, currently detained on serious criminal charges, is accused of being incapable of running a legitimate campaign.
The group argues that his incarceration undermines the electoral process, as he cannot actively engage with voters or fulfill campaign duties.
Quiboloy’s legal team, however, dismissed the petition, claiming it was without merit.
