Hunger prevalence among beneficiaries of the government’s Walang Gutom program dropped from 48.7% in October 2024 to 41.5% in March 2025, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
The survey, commissioned by Globe and Monde Nissin, showed a 7.2 percentage point decrease in hunger over six months.
The most significant reduction was seen in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)-plus cluster, where hunger fell by 17.4 points.
BARMM provinces make up nearly a third of the program’s beneficiaries and have the highest hunger rates.
SWS fellow Roehlano Briones noted improvements across all regions and in various indicators of hunger and diet quality among Walang Gutom recipients.
