Vice President Sara Duterte defended her record as education secretary after being called a “complete failure,” but Palace Press Officer Claire Castro challenged her claims.
Castro highlighted Duterte’s admission that she was unfamiliar with the Matatag curriculum she implemented, relying heavily on her officials due to her lack of education sector experience.
The Palace also pointed to issues during Duterte’s tenure, including millions of undistributed gadgets and laptops, and P100 million spent on ghost students.
Castro accused Duterte of spreading disinformation to undermine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration in a bid to boost her political ambitions.
Duterte resigned as education secretary in 2024 and has since become a vocal critic of the Marcos administration, while facing corruption allegations related to fund misuse.
