Vice President Sara Duterte thanked China for fully funding the P3.1-billion Bucana Bridge in Davao City, which connects the city’s eastern and western coasts.
She also acknowledged her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, for securing the funding and initiating the project when she was Davao City mayor.
The bridge, built through China’s Official Development Assistance, spans 480 meters with six extradosed spans and 860 meters of approach roads, and includes a pedestrian walkway and a shared-use path for cyclists.
Duterte highlighted that the project incurred no cost to the Davao City government or the Philippines and will accommodate up to 14,000 vehicles daily, providing a safer and faster route.
She said the bridge benefits both Dabawenyos and residents of Mindanao, improving connectivity from south to north of the region.
