The House Committee on Appropriations has unanimously decided to cut Vice President Sara Duterte’s proposed P2.03-billion budget by over 63%, reducing it to P1.3 billion.
This significant reduction targets allocations for financial assistance, consultants, utilities, and rental expenses, with the funds being redirected to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Health (DOH).
Despite the cuts, the OVP’s personnel services budget remains intact to protect staff jobs.
Senate President Francis Escudero has urged Duterte and House members to resolve their differences and follow the budget process.
The proposed budget cuts are subject to approval during plenary debates and must be finalized in a bicameral meeting with the Senate.
