The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended filing criminal charges against Vice President Sara Duterte for inciting sedition and making grave threats against President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is now evaluating the NBI’s findings, stating that due process will be followed in deciding whether to pursue one or both charges.
Duterte has denied making assassination threats, while her legal counsel, Salvador Panelo, dismissed the charges as politically motivated.
The Vice President previously ignored two NBI subpoenas, prompting an investigation based on available evidence, including media interviews.
Meanwhile, lawmakers argue that the NBI’s recommendation strengthens the impeachment case against Duterte, though Senate President Francis Escudero maintains that the criminal charges will not impact the impeachment proceedings.
