VILLANUEVA SEEKS SENATE PROBE ON LOW CHILDHOOD VACCINATION RATES

Senator Joel Villanueva has filed Senate Resolution No. 1334 seeking an investigation into the implementation of the National Immunization Program amid rising vaccine hesitancy and the return of preventable diseases like polio and measles.

Despite the Department of Health’s 95% immunization target for children under five, only 61% were fully immunized in 2024, based on partial data as of January 2025.

Villanueva cited factors such as supply chain issues, logistical challenges, and public mistrust rooted in past vaccine controversies.

He warned that low vaccination rates threaten herd immunity and could reverse public health gains, while also causing significant financial losses.

The senator called for improved policies to close systemic gaps and rebuild vaccine confidence among Filipinos.
