The Senate blue ribbon committee has ordered the Commission on Audit (COA) to submit fraud audit documents on the country’s flood control projects amid allegations of irregularities.
Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva filed a motion to subpoena COA’s audit highlights and responses from concerned officials, a move backed by Sen. Ronald dela Rosa and approved by committee chair Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
COA officials explained that the audit highlights contain evidence, findings, and names of those potentially liable, though due process requires notifying them first. Earlier, COA chairperson Gamaliel Cordoba directed an immediate performance audit of flood control projects under the government’s multibillion-peso Flood Risk Management and Resiliency Program.
Lawmakers said the probe aims to determine why massive flooding persists despite huge spending on infrastructure.
